Hit the traction control pedal and off we go!
Today's First Gear: We have the American European! The 2014 Ford Focus. Seriously though, the traction control in this thing is way too eager to work. Snowy lot? Yep. Kick it down a gear driving, bingo. Blink a little too quick and it'll turn on. Yes I know it can be turned off but that makes too much sense and I don't get paid enough to make sense. I discovered for some reason the compass display can be turned off. Apparently, having two letters by your odometer telling you your current direction can be annoying. I don't see that feature being popular with geese, who tend to make regular trips in certain directions. Speaking of the display, there's a diagram of a car! It looks nothing like the car you're in, but it's a car! More plastic than a backlot plastic surgery clinic in Hollywood inside. BUTTONS. LOTS OF BUTTONS which is good because SYNC isn't very good. Oh and I had a hatch today which is the better looking version, in my opinion.
Honestly, I really love these things and want to buy one someday. Especially in ST guise.
First Gear is a new column, about a kid, a car lot full of new cars, and a habit of noticing random things. It's written from the view of a Ford dealer's lot attendent who for some reason thinks you care about the cars he spends very little time in. He also thinks you actually care about his random thoughts and will randomly post them to Oppositelock at his leisure. Just don't give him an excuse to break into full reviews. He can't handle that level of greatness.
